It’s been a busy season so far, and things aren’t slowing down. There’s not a day goes by lately that a customer doesn’t bring us a bike for service. When you’re a repair shop, that’s the best kind of busy. Usually it’s nothing fancy, just a tune-up or a tire change, but in a way these are the best jobs we can do. They keep honest bikes out on the road. Some days the back room looks a bit like winter storage. Wall-to-wall motorcycles ready for tender loving care are far as the eye can see back there. And each day, finished bikes go out the door and back on the road. In the middle of riding season, that’s the cycle of things.
Over the mists of carb cleaner and the hiss of compressed air, we’re already starting to think about autumn. The heat of summer is fading fast and the long, glorious temperance of fall is going to set in over Minnesota in the next few weeks. That’s the bigger cycle at play. The world keeps turning and the sun keeps pulling us. ‘Round and ’round we go. That has us thinking about what to do with the rest of riding season. What trips should we take? What remaining events should we attend? How many days until the next Third Thursday?
It’s hard not to think about the calendar, or count the days until the first snow might start to fall. That’s still quite a ways away though. Even when that time does come, we’ll still be plenty busy. The back room will be tire-to-tire bikes in for winter storage. There will still be motorcycles to fix, and there is usually a restoration or customization project or two to keep us busy while it’s gray and white outside. Things slow down. Things speed up. That’s the cycle of fixing motorcycles in Minnesota.
For now, we’re busy. Just the way we like it. Looking forward to the coming months, we’re making plans to do autumn up right. We’ll share them soon. Autumn is our favorite time to ride, so stay tuned while we put some routes together. What are your plans for autumn?
